There are a lot of different skills required of CMAC staff at all levels of the
organization. Thus a large Training Center was established in Kampong Chhnang
province. The facility is well developed and provides a very good service for
Demining and EOD Training and also Middle Management Training. Instructor
development is an ongoing process and the current staff appears to have all the
necessary skills. From January to the end of June, 2003, 395 CMAC staff
underwent training at the TC. Some of the courses offered are courses to train
the Mine Risk Reduction teams, Mine Detection Dog course, mine neutralization
course, Brush Cutter course, field management course, lifesaving and trauma
management courses, Explosive Ordnance
Disposal course, driver and maintenance
course, first aid course, as well as
refresher courses for staff to make sure
that they are following the correct
procedures, and to teach them new and
innovative techniques and procedures
when they are found. The TC also conducts
trials and evaluation of new demining techniques and equipment.
CMAC intends to increase the effectiveness of the Training Center by conducting
a full training needs analysis to identify areas where training can be
improved, and also to identify training requirements for the future. This will
show where improvements can be made, and which courses need revision. CMAC also
intends to have all staff complete certain required courses in order to give
staff a wider knowledge of demining procedures. Other initiatives are also in
the development stage to make the Training Center and CMAC as a whole even more
productive. |
